“For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.” ~ Luke 12:2
In the deepest recesses of one’s mind, the fermentation of thoughts unseen and deeds undone create a brew of sin and harlotry. Because no one can see, and no one can know, we feel this libertine as our own, a prerogative given by the semblance of privacy. We fan the flame of unkind thoughts and darkest secrets, believing if we never let them escape their filthy dungeons, we shall not be made lesser.
But little do we know, the growing darkness that transcends our compass of sense and righteousness. The world may be none the wiser but our hearts become darker. The conscience is seared by our effortless nurturing of the evil inheritance, unknown investments in a nether world we sever reality from.
Our thoughts, so harmless yet intrusive, narrow the mind along a path of deplorable conditions. Soon, these poison seeds take firmer root and desire growth. A moment of dwelling no longer suffices…but longer interims of a desperate soul. We immerse ourselves in every empty awakening with a careless wandering of the fragile mind, seeking corners, loving autonomy from God.
Outwardly, we are brand new and beautiful. Inwardly, a graveyard of adulterous lusts and deformed passions. The stars hold secrets beyond time and our souls mark every thought and deed of our brief sojourn through this dying earth. What darkness do you keep inside, what sins do you hide? At the very last, we can hide from all but One.
In the quiet dawn, we feel our dreams like lifetimes, so real, so cruel…How could we not have realized the sins of the heart and body are one?
