How can we enjoy being young

When we are fired in pain

Pain only comes to the old

Or so we were told

Then the truth broke in

And every bone began to pierce

We left our yesterdays in piles of pills

Chalked them up to more unknown tomorrows

We were a little worse for wear

Each day was fashion we could never follow

Left behind and thrown away

Within we were screaming for golden youth

Just one night of fire free flesh

But then the tired dawn would come

And break us in two

It never ended

Even when the dreams began

The secrets started to show

And the rumours spread before wisdom came

We wanted to run

But they found us first

There was nowhere to go

But inside our festered holes

Every day we wondered

When it would be our last

Would this burning perpetuate forever

Living in a wreck

If we ever grew old

Time dragged on

Charred blood over tired joints

Slice and spill, drop the kill

What was left

But miracles in wanting

How ironic

When the young can’t grow old

Along the path the world toils and sweats after

We just bleed into ourselves

And find freedom in the end.
